Ferdinard Adungo, PhD

Dr. Ferdinard Adungo is a researcher at the Kenya Medical Research Institute with 17 years of experience in field and laboratory epidemiology. He recently completed 2 years of postdoc fellowship at Janssen Pharmceutica N.V, Belgium, as a trainee on the clinical development for small molecules and vaccine medical affairs. Before Janssen, he undertook a 1-year postdoc research with the Consortium for National Health Research, Kenya under the Wellcome Trust grant for health research capacity strengthening for Africa. His research focus has been in the area of infectious diseases diagnostics, molecular biology and immunology. He evaluated technologies and novel diagnostics for arboviruses such as yellow fever and dengue. Also involved in HIV, TB, malaria, CD4-T cell enumeration and HIV RNA quantification laboratory capacity strengthening. Has experience in project management and serves as a member of the scientific and ethics review unit of KEMRI. Belongs to several professional bodies: the Kenya Society of Immunology, International Society for Medical Publications Professionals, Medical Affairs Professionals Society, and the African Biosafety Association. Dr. Adungo has authored several practice guidelines, published in peer-reviewed journals in the areas of clinical microbiology and molecular diagnostics. He completed his BS degree in biology, MSc in immunology at Kenyatta University, and his PhD in Medical Science at the Institute of Tropical Medicine, Nagasaki University, Japan.
